For the 2025-2026 curling season, unused sheets during league play will be made available as practice ice. If, for example, a league has 48 curlers (12 teams) and only uses 6 sheets, the 7th sheet will be available as practice ice. This approach should help to provide some practice ice at different times of the day and some evenings.
How will this work?
- Available practice ice timeslots will be listed on the website. Members will book practice ice similar to registering for a bonspiel. We are using the website booking system so that multiple teams do not show up for the same single sheet of practice ice.
- Practice ice bookings will open approximately 7 days before practice date.
- There will be a fee of $2 per practice sheet to book practice ice. The $2 fee is intended to encourage members to only book practice ice they are actually going to use. The $2 will be donated to Special Olympics/ Barrie Foodbank.
- One member books the practice ice; up to seven other curlers (as coordinated by the member who booked the ice) can also practice. The $2 fee covers up to 8 curlers on one practice sheet.
- During practice, curlers must ensure that league games on adjacent sheets are not impacted.
- The current midday practice times will not require booking (no change to the process from previous years).
- Practice ice is limited to Barrie Curling Club members.
